Green House Post Growth Project

In July we launched out Post-Growth Project, around the time that the ONS statisticians confirmed that the UK economy has ceased to grow. Being unwilling to waste such an opportunity, we are producing a series of papers discussing the implications of the end of growth for our public services, the way we manage our economy at the macro level, the future of democratic politics, and the culture of consumerism. We have set up a special area of the website where you can find more information about this project.

Molly has recently published an article in the New Statesman's Current Account blog tracing the murky history of the establishment of the IMF and questioning whether we might have been intended to end up in this financial mess? See The Soviet Spy, the Birth of the IMF and the Roots of the Current Crisis.

Green House at Green Party Conference

The Green House fringe on debt, austerity and the need for a citizens audit was packed out. To encourage somewhere near 100 people to spend nearly two hours thinking very hard about highly technical issues was a great achievement. We were joined by Tim Jones from the Jubilee Debt Campaign, who we hope will take forward this very important work.

Molly Scott Cato was also part of a panel called What if growth doesn’t happen? She was joined by Andrew Simms of the New Economics Foundation, James Vaccaro from Triodos Bank and Michael Clinton from the Bristol-based Schumacher Institute.

Just Banking

In response to the Vickers Report we are launching our latest publication, The Dog That Didn’t Bark: When banking crises did not occur and what we can learn from that by Thomas Lines. To find a summary or download the full report visit our Recent Publications page.
